Scott Redding named MCN Rider of the Year 2019
Reigning British Superbike champion Scott Redding has been crowned MCN Rider of the Year 2019.
Redding overcame some tough competition in this year’s public vote. The 27-year-old was shortlisted alongside Peter Hickman, Marc Marquez, Jonathan Rea and Dean Harrison. Redding was given the news at the Carole Nash MCN London Motorcycle Show.
Redding enjoyed a fresh start to his racing career last year after leaving MotoGP for the BSB paddock with Be Wiser Ducati. Some fans doubted Redding’s chances before he’d even completed a lap, but he’d soon prove them wrong.
At Donington Park, the third race meeting of the year, Redding claimed a hat-trick of victories before going on to win another eight times before the end of the year. A year-long battle with teammate Josh Brookes went down to the final race of the year, with Redding clinching the title by five points.
Redding moves to the World Superbike Championship this season and hopes to overcome the five-time champion Jonathan Rea. Redding lines-up alongside Chaz Davies for the factory Ducati team.
The MCN Rider of the Year 2019 trophy will be presented to Redding later in the year. You can watch his acceptance video below.
